Murray Bridge Cheesery sets the standard at the 2015 SA Dairy Awards

A small family owned cheesery set on the outskirts of the township of Murray Bridge has scooped the pool at the SA Dairy awards, (conducted by the Royal Adelaide Show and DIAA), winning 4 out of the 10 trophies offered and in so doing becoming the most successful cheesery at this years show.

Wayne Austin is no April fool! Although he did start his Cheese Please cheesery in Murray Bridge on April fool’s day 2013.

Just two years into commercial production Wayne has lived and run his business by the standards set at a very young age of not accepting second best, this standard has paid off for Wayne and Cheese Please at the 2015 SA Dairy Awards, winning :-

A stella performance from a relatively unknown newcomer to the Food Scene in South Australia, competition was tough, up against well-known and respected brands such as Alexandrina Cheese Company, King Island Dairy and Woodside Cheese Wrights to name a few, this cheesery is now forging a path as a respected artisan cheesery with outstanding quality.

My Show History

One of the reasons that winning these awards is so special to me is that I grew up on a small stud Illawarra dairy cow farm in Boat Harbour on the North west Coast of Tasmania. Dad was a passionate show goer and every spring we would make the round of the local shows with the pick of animals from Dad’s herd. From an early age my brother Leigh & I had our own stud and to win a blue ribbon in the interbreed events made for a great show. It is very exciting for my family that we can now add Cheese trophies along with cow trophies to the cabinet. Thanks Dad for the inspiration to always strive to do something better.

The Raw Product

Award winning cheese needs great milk to begin with and I must pay homage to the Simon’s family from Mannum. Their well bred and well fed cows produce fantastic milk which is then the building block to make good cheese.
